Personal Observations. Personal Observations 7 Section Seven. Could her attire be typical bathing attire? Bathing in American culture is considered a private activity, and I was interested in the cultural impact of public bathing. I was most surprised to learn about the positive impacts public baths had on community, social life and culture. However, there was also a darker side to the public baths.
We're making strides in Western culture but—as I learned after a week of bathing in Japanese public hot baths—we still have a ways to go. My newly made friends and I had spent the last three or so hours gaining over 1, feet in elevation along one of the historic Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes as part of our day trip through Japan with REI Adventures. My glutes were tired, my hamstrings wanted a rest, and that local draft beer tasted unbelievably good. As I took in the picturesque mountain views of the Hatenasi Valley-a sight so tranquil that I normally would have felt nothing but peace-I felt a tremor of panic course through me. In remote areas of Japan, it's not common for travelers to have private bathrooms where you can relax in a luxuriously long bath, or even enjoy a hot tub soak in your bathing suit.

Mixed bathing is the sharing of a pool , beach or other place by swimmers of both sexes. Mixed bathing usually refers to swimming or other water-based recreational activities in public or semi-public facilities, such as hotel or holiday resort pool, in a non- sex segregated environment. In ancient Rome , mixed bathing at public facilities was prohibited at various periods, while commonplace at others. It is also possible that sex segregated bathing was the rule at some facilities but not at others. In many parts of the world, mixed bathing was not generally allowed and moral campaigners argued that mixed bathing was immoral or immodest.
